Laureen has always enjoyed dance but never had any formal training until Alex enrolled them in Latin Dance classes at Grant Macewan as an Anniversary gift. They became hooked and could not get enough! Since then they learned from local Instructor’s as well as travelling through out the U.S, Latin America and Europe in the pursuit of more knowledge and a better understanding of the different variations of Salsa from Puerto Rican to East Coast/NY Style to Cuban to LA/ West Coast Style. They have choreographed and competed and trained with teams and competed at WLDC and Salsa Summit in the amateur category and have a strong admiration for competitors and the benefit that competition brings passed the medals involved.
As a previous educator (B.Ed) Laureen takes great joy in the transfer of knowledge and she truly hopes that edc.STUDIO can inspire a new generation of dancers to fall in love with Salsa and Bachata. Laureen loves the playfulness of Dominican Bachata and the freedom of expression that Bachata allows through it’s ever evolving styles and the speed and complexity of Salsa. There are so many layers and levels to the history of these ever changing dances that you can forever be a student of the infectious Latin rhythms. Alex and Laureen are excited to share their knowledge of Bachata and Salsa and grow the Latin Dance Community.
